Another Rock to Roll

Another Rock to Roll is the second solo record by Ric Albano and it was released in digital format on November 9, 2022. The tracks of original songs were all composed by Ric Albano with Ric recording each of every instrument of this another truly “solo” record.

After the unplanned, pandemic-induced projects of 2020-21 which yielded the 2020 Ric Albano solo debut Out There Somewhere and the 2021 Sinclair Soul album The Girl with No Name, Ric decided to follow a similar pattern in 2022-23. However, these new projects were approached a bit different on two major fronts.

First, the songs were developed sequentially, with most new compositions written for the group album (Frequencies, 2023). Second, this Ric Albano solo record was derived mainly from a defunct project nearly a decade earlier which was originally intended to be the debut Sinclair Soul album around 2013. That project had a full slate of songs written and ready to be recorded but got shelved for technical reasons and, save for a few songs were poached for projects in between, was not truly realized until the production of Another Rock to Roll through 2022. Most of that defunct record (originally titled Another Rock Yet to Roll) was tethered into a loose concept, a concept that was left intact for an intended later release. So this solo record was much less an experiment of “left-overs” (like Out There Somewhere) and more the independent fruition of a long-planned concept.

In that light, the album features compositions of various styles which were composed mainly during the pre-Sinclair Soul phase of Ric’s career. The earliest tunes originated in the mid-2000s with the bulk written in the early 2010s, during a long break in Ric’s recording career. However, there are a few recent songs being written in 2021 and 2022 which give the album a topical timeliness in the post-COVID world.

The 13 tracks on Another Rock to Roll were recorded and mixed from January through October 2022, with Ric providing vocals, guitars, bass, keyboards, harmonica, drums and percussion. Sinclair Soul drummer Ron Simasek offered his basement, instruments and consultation in guiding Ric through his new adventures in rhythm with mastering provided by Bret Alexander.
