One of the more experimental recordings on Another Rock to Roll, “Human Song” trades the album’s more conventional narrative songwriting for a short, deliberately uneven excursion into shifting textures and ideas.
I used an old synthesize, bass and drum recording and overdub some treble instruments, and vocals. In the end, it’s less than a perfect track, but it does fall in me a guard spirit that ran through the first solo album.

Motivated by something that cannot be controlled
It’s human nature
If we lose our humanity, discharge our goodwill
Will we ever satisfy our vanity, ever truly be fulfilled?
Or salvage our starship on a course to paradise?

It’s luminous, luminous as gold
It innervates beyond control
It’s just human nature
Crazy as this picture, we will not give it up now
We will grab that square-ish fixture
And make it round somehow
But if we lose our capacity for a reason and for commonsense
Will we ever regain the audacity to confront that which is bent?
Beyond our control, that beyond our control
Is it in our nature? Our human nature?
