Freedom Song

“Freedom Song” was always intended to be the closing tune, going all the way back to the defunct album of 2013. This song is a rare onethat came into my head fully intact, but took years and years and years to actually properly compose. The main reason for this is it is in several keys and I would try writing it in one of those keys and parts would sound right and other parts would sound off until eventually I realizes when the song pops in your head, fully intact doesn’t necessarily follow strict musical theory. So I composed in several keys as well as dueling beat style as it alternates between swing time and straight time as I learned from my drummer Ron Simasek.

The song is quite straightforward as an almost libertarian type anthem about being able to live out your best life and in an honest way in the land of a free. This was redone for Pieces of the Past with new, heavy layered guitar riffs added by myself and better drumming by Ron (as compared to me on this solo version).

God bless the USA.

Lyrics

Let the people be free, let the people be free
Let them bend no more knees
Let them crow out no pleas, nor quell, nor appease
Let them build their own homes
Let them roll their own stones
Let the people be free

Take me to the Heaven, take me where I need to go
To the optimal place where the tyranny never prospers
Nor does it ever get to hide within the pleasure trolls
As the truth does flow

And the people are free, all the people are free
Whether they rock or they breed
Whether they talk or they screed, let them feed their own needs
They can decide on their own how to set their own tone
Let the people be free

Words can’t harm a balanced person
It’s kinetic deeds that’ll break her bones
Self-determination is inalienable, for sure
And it cannot be surrendered to the clones
Nor the unmanned drones

When the people are free, all the people are free
Whether they draw from the seas
Or they sail on the breeze, or they talk with the trees
Let the world be their zone to construct their own throne

Just to spring up from the bottom
And rise as high as my wings will tread the air
If I conduct an honest expedition
Why should the “overlords” even care?
If I don’t disrupt another person’s fare?

I will build my own home
I will roll my own stone
And I shall be free
